Kangavar, one of the historical cities of Iran, is located in the extreme eastern part of Kermanshah province at the height of 1200 meters above the sea level. This city is in the western heights of Zagross in the way of Kermanshah-Hamedan. This region's climate is mountainous moderate. Kangavar consists of one part naming as “Markazi”, one city as”Kangavar” and 5 rural districts. Kangavar enjoys a specific prosperity due to its abundant water resources, springs and fertile plain.
In addition to the natural attractions of this city, historical monuments and holy places has been converted this city into one of the tourist regions of Iran. Kangavar economy is established on the basis of factories such as agricultural implements, stone carving, handicrafts and wooden arts include carving, traditional musical instruments, Glim, agricultural and service sector.
Kangavar people speak in Luri, Kurdi and Turki. Most of the residents of this city are Shia, but a small group of them are Sunni from Iraq Kurdistan some of them are followers of Ahl-e Haq, too.
