Shebeli Tower is a memorial structure located in the eastern heights of Damavand city in Tehran province. This tower is a relic of the 4th and 5th centuries AH, the Seljuk period. Shebeli Arefi was from Khorasan, the village of Shebelieh. He was the governor of Damavand.
It is said that Shebeli Arefi spread justice and security in Damavand and finally left a good name for himself. For this reason, after he died in Baghdad, the people of Damavand erected this monument thanks to his services. At first, this tower was built in a simple octagonal shape, then in the next period, brickwork was done on it in the Seljuk style. The facade of this building is reminiscent of the Razi style in architecture.
Shebeli tower has a two-layer covering its structure and is reminiscent of the Sardabeh style in Iranian architecture. Several steps lead from the tower entrance to the Sardabeh. Shebeli tower is about 10 meters high, and its roof, which is dome-shaped, is octagonal from the outside and circular from the inside. What stands out most in the tower's facade are the holes made for air conditioning. There are semicircular columns in the corners of the tower that are made of baked bricks. These bricks give a stunning look. There is a cemetery around this tower that is historical.
Another attraction that can be visited at the same time as the tower is the Tar River, and the beautiful nature of Damavand, which has a unique effect in spring and autumn. Tourists generally use nature and the space around the tower as a promenade.
This work has been restored twice in different periods due to its architectural values and historical importance. It is finally registered in the list of national monuments of Iran on June 19, 1972.
