Zein-o-Din Carvanserai is located on the historic road in Yazd Province; on one of the historic roads connected Fars to Khorasan and Rey to Kerman The other carvansarais are “Sarizd, "Kermanshahan" and "Shamsh". There is another road which Marco Polo followed and reached Kerman from Bafgh.
Many caravans in the history of Iran passed through Yazd and reached a magnificent Zein-o-Din Carvanserai to rest and use its facilities.
Zein-o-Din Caravanserai is one of the few round caravanserais in Iran that is reminiscent of Safavid era which is designed by Isfanah architecture style. This caravanserai was built in the 10th century architect Mohammad Sultan Yazdi and the order of Shah Abbas. This caravanserai is located within 60 km of Yazd, and today it is located within 40 km of Mehriz, near to the city of Anar. Zein-o-Din Caravanserai was included in the list of national monuments of Iran in 1970s.
Zein-o-Din Caravanserai is a round brick structure. In this caravanserai, an eight-meter wall, 6 semicircular towers and a gate has been placed in a way that all of them have the same height. The gate of the caravanserai has been built toward the south and a large portal is placed above it.
The gate opens into a porch, and then there is a 12-sided mezzanine, with a pool in the middle. In this mezzanine there are also porticos which in the end of each there are similar rooms. The vestibule has long corridors on both sides in the east and the west that lead to the stalls.
