Semnan is located at 216 km east of Tehran in the southern hillsides of the Alborz mountain range and the north of the Kavir desert on the way of Tehran to Khorasan with the height of 1130 m above the sea level .This city enjoys an arid and temperate climate. Semnan consists of one part "Markazi", one City and one rural district.
There is a complex of deserts and mountainous landscapes in Semnan Climatic diversity. Industry and mines have created desirable handicrafts such as pottery, hand woven silky and rug and they lead to this city’s development. This city is one of tourist attractions due to its natural sights dated back to thousands years ago. Being located on the way of invasions and migrations between East and West, Semnan embraces the remains of the most important ancient civilizations including historical area, cisterns, aqueducts with multiple unique architecture related to various era. Semnan has been always a land of religion and science masters, and one of the popular cities in terms of reducing illiteracy in Iran. Semnan people’s race is Aryan and they speak in Semnani. Most of the people in this region are Shia'.
