The historical building of Qorban Historical Tower is placed in Zandiha neighborhood in Hamedan, near Ibn Sina High School and it is stated that this place has been the burial of Sheikh al-Islam Hassan Ibn Attar Hafiz Abu al-Ala and some other Seljuk emirs. Hafiz Abu al-Ala passed away in 1127 AD.
This tower was erected during the seventh and eighth centuries A.H. as a simple and unadorned building in form of a brick dodecagonal construction with a pyramid-shaped dome in dodecagonal form above it. The length of twelve sides of the tower is over two meters from outside and a little bit more than one meter from inside.
The external side of the building is covered by arcades of 15 centimeters depth and 1.23 meters width. There are also several arcades inside the tower, too, with 20 centimeters depth and 90 centimeters width. The building has no stucco inscription or any other decorations.
There is a basement underneath the tower which was restored in 1950 when its entrance was moved to the northwestern side. There is a plain and ordinary tombstone in the center of the tower with 1.25 meters length and 50 centimeters width on which a six-line inscription has been carved: Ya Ghaffar al-Zonoub Hazā al-Ghabr al-Marhoum al-Maghfoor al-Vāsel Ela Rahmat Allāh Taāli Mohammad fi Shahr-e Dhu al-Hijja enda Laho Sena 1090 A.H. This stone remains from Safavid period and it does not refer to the construction date of the building. It is stated that a person named Qorban used the tower as its stronghold during the Afghan’s invasion to protect the local people and this is the reason for naming this place. The tower is presently surrounded by residential houses and consequently lost its spectacular appearance.
