Shadegan is located at the south of Khuzestan.
This city is limited to Ahvaz from the north, Bandar Mahshahr from the east, Khorramshahr from the west and Abadan from the south. This city height is 5 meters above the sea level and its climate is a warm and humid. Shadegan consists of 3 parts naming “Markazi”, ”Darokhoveyn”, ”Khanafereh”, 3 cities as ”Darkhoveyn “, ”Khonafereh” ,”Shadegan”and 8 rural districts.
Shadegan was the subordinate city of Khorramshahr until 1358, when it turned into an independent county. This city is located in one of the oil regions of Iran that 5% of Iran’s total oil production is extracted in this area.
Shadegan is one of the important economic regions in which Karoon and Jarahi rivers and arable lands are located.
The economy of Shadegan depends on agriculture. The major date of the country is supplied from this region. Animal husbandry is a common job in this city. Historical attractions next to the natural sights like the Shadegan international lagoon increases the importance of city. Handicraft of Shadegan contains fescue, basket weaving and something like them, which are weaved useing the leaves of date tree or reed of the lagoon. Aba Bafi and Jajim Bafi had also been prosperd in the past. Shadegan people are Arabs originated from Bani Ka’ab, Bani Tamim, Bani Malek, Bavi, Mator tribes. The people of this city are Muslim and followers of Asna Ashari Shia.
