Marvdasht is located in the north of Fars in a plain and flat region, which ended up to the mountain from the north, west and south and continues to Bakhtegan Lake from east and southeast with the height of 1620 m above the sea level.
This city enjoys a moderate and mountain climate.
Marvdasht consists of five parts naming “Markazi“, ”kor”, ”Kamfirouz”, ”Seyedan“, ”Doroudzan”, 5 cities and 15 rural districts.
In addition to the existence of several tourism, historical, religious, agricultural attractions, Marvdasht is the most populous and industrial city in Fars province after Shiraz and one of the most significant industrial centers of Iran.
Important manufactures such as sugar factory, which enjoys a high reputation in Iran, the first petrochemical complex, stone cutting factories, alterant industries, valuable handicrafts, rich and developed mine have increased its development.
Marvdasht is an agricultural center of this region. Tourist attractions such as Tange Bostanak or Behesht Gomshode, Dorodzan Dam lake, historical attractions such as Persepolis that is one of the most magnificent historical complexes in Iran, Naqsh-e Rustam, Naqsh-e Rajab and etc., have turned this region into one of the best tourism areas.
The residents of this city are Aryan and they speak in Farsi. Local dialects, Shirazi, Qashqaei Turki and Luri are common there. Most of Marvdasht people are Shia followers.
