Nestled in the heart of the historical city of Lahijan, the Akbariyeh Mosque stands as a testament to the rich architectural heritage of Gilan Province. Initially constructed during the fourth century AH, this mosque has undergone significant renovations and expansions during the Safavid and Qajar eras, reflecting the evolving architectural styles of these periods.

The mosque's current structure comprises two distinct sections. The older section, housing the ablution chamber on the ground floor and the Shabestan (the main prayer hall), porches, and corridors on the upper level, embodies the architectural traditions of its early construction. The newer section, added during the Qajar era, features three interconnected lofty arches supported by six pillars, creating a spacious prayer hall adorned with intricate muqarnas (stalactite-like ornaments) adorning the bases and connecting them to the vaulted ceiling.

Unfortunately, the mosque suffered damage to its Qajar-era smaller and larger arches during the June 1990 earthquake. Fortunately, these elements have been meticulously restored, preserving the mosque's architectural integrity. In recognition of its historical significance, the Akbariyeh Mosque has been inscribed on the National List of Iran's Cultural Heritage under number 1227.
