The Under Glass Painting Museum is one of the most beautiful museums in Tehran, located on Saadi Street, Qa'edi Street.
The building of this Museum belonged to a physician named Siavash Shaghaghi. Later, the building was transferred to the Tehran Municipality, which, after reconstruction, was handed over to the Cultural Heritage Organization in 1998 and used as Iran's first under glass painting museum. The museum was closed once in 2010 and reopened shortly after.
The museum building, with an area of 1400 square meters and a floor area of 500 square meters, dates back to the late Qajar period and early Pahlavi period. The Glass Painting Museum is the second glass painting museum in the world and the only independent museum dedicated to a branch of painting. It encompasses a vast collection of Iranian glass paintings.
Due to its reversed design application and the use of bright and vivid colors, Glass painting requires high skill, pen power, design, and finesse. The paintings displayed in this museum include various subjects and themes. Human images include single portraits, religious and historical figures, as well as images of ordinary people engaged in various activities such as playing music, reading books, and exercising.
