Jouq Fortress Complex: A Rare Historical Site

0

The Jouq Fortress Complex is among the rarest existing monuments in the region, with no similar examples found nearby. This complex is located at the extreme southwest of the village of Jouq, at a distance of 1610 meters. The history of this structure dates back to the historical period.

The complex consists of four parts: the historical town, the necropolis, the tower, and the rock-cut structures built on the slopes of the mountains surrounding the village. Inside this necropolis (cave), fifteen chambers measuring 2 x 2 meters have been constructed, with an entrance located more than ten meters above ground level. Adjacent to it is a site (historical town) where architectural structures are visible in some places. At a height overlooking this site is a solitary stone tower, reminiscent of the watchtowers of the historical period. Also, in the vicinity of these monuments, on the slopes of the mountain range, there are rock-cut structures resembling coffin that have been carved into the rocky bed.
