Mat weaving is one of the very popular home handicrafts among people in Gilan province. It is flourished in almost everywhere in the region but it is more reputed in Khomam, Golshan, Jefrud, Qazian, and Bandar-e Anzali along with its surrounding villages. The raw material of this handicraft is Li or Soof which are wild plants available in the margins of lagoons and basins. Producing this craft is a kind of occupation for local people who become free from the agricultural responsibilities in some seasons. It is a flowering factor playing a crucial role in trades in the local bazars. Mat products have a lot of usages because of their diversity.
