The project of building Earth Sciences Park was started in 1385 SH in an area of 450 square meters by the Geological Survey and Mineral Explorations of Iran (GSI) of the north region of Iran and it was established in 1397 SH. This complex has two parts; the first one is the internal part of the museum where the discovered geological findings are exhibited and the other part is the yard of the museum in which different phases of exploration and geology are presented in a unique form.
Interesting among the internal sections of the museum are the part of stones, fossils, precious and semi-precious stones that have been scientifically arranged. The collected samples for this museum are more than 200000 species among which 2500 samples are on display. The oldest materials of the museum are in fossil part that are one fossil and one granite stone backing to more than 500000000 years ago and also fossils of Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Pacific Ocean and Philippine Sea are kept for exhibiting in the fossil part. In fact, one of the main elements of the museum is this part of fossils that is improved every year through a regular plan of fossil collecting as a necessary need of the museum. In part of minerals, there are many salt crystals, turquoise and emerald pieces along with the professional tools of geologists.
One of the most interesting parts of the museum is related to dinosaur where the nail and tooth of the most dangerous dinosaur in the world related to 153000000 years ago are displayed; these two pieces were bought from America and added to the materials of the museum. In addition, the trace of a dinosaur discovered in Zarand, Kerman province, along with the giant skeleton of Tyrannosaurus are other attractive materials of this museum. The geological phases are presented in the yard through some maquettes. There are other parts such as the professional park of geology, different collections of stones, fossils and minerals, the solar system, sun clock, giant dinosaur, faults and an exploratory and educational tunnel where different phases of mining are displayed.
